Group Leader

Dr Hualin Zhan

Theoretical physicist with expertise in machine learning since 2006.

Dr Hualin Zhan received his PhD in physics from the University of Melbourne and he has been an nanomaterials engineer in industry for years. His achievements have been recognized with numerous accolades, including an ACAP Fellowship (Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics), a PVSEC-35 award, a Queen's College Graduate Scholarship, a Melbourne International Research Scholarship, an E-MRS student award, etc. His research strives to innovate energy materials by physics-based machine learning, paving the way for the discovery of disruptive technologies.

Graduate Students

Yiqing Zhang

PhD student. Chemist with expertise in computational materials.

Yiqing received his MSc from Zhejiang University. He is dedicated in chemistry research with a focus on Materials Calculation and Perovskite. He values critical thinking and enjoys programming, jogging while seeking opportunities to grow and make an impact.

Yinbao Li

PhD student. AI algorithm engineer.

Yinbao worked as a senior algorithm engineer at Baidu Technology after accomplishing his master study in statistics at the University of Edinburgh. He then served as the principal engineer at Desay SV Singapore before joining the team. His research experience mainly focuses on sensor data mining, machine learning, machine vision, etc. Yinbao enjoys exploring interdisciplinary research fields and looks forward to solving challenging technical problems.

Xin Wang

PhD student. Computer scientist.

Xin completed his Master’s degree in computing at ANU. His research interest lies in AI for science, especially in explaining trained machine learning models to extract novel insights for conventional scientific fields. He is curious about new ideas, enjoys collaborating with others, and hopes to contribute to the research community.

Jing Wang

Visiting PhD student. Hydrogen energy researcher.

Jing is a PhD student from Prof Lianhai Zu's group in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shanghai Advanced Research Institute), co-supervised by Dr Hualin Zhan (ANU). She focuses on experimental and theoretical researches of porous materials for hydrogen energy. She is passionate about continuous learning and innovation, with a particular interest in reading, critical thinking, and personal growth through challenging experiences.
